CA Governor Letter Request Bill Signing Battling Medical Misinformation to Save Medical Worker Lives + Broadly Build Trust With the Workforce
Many are not aware that the U.S. is ranked dead last in the G7 for highest COVID deaths. A huge contributor to that has been radical extreme libertarian medical misinformation. Though other dangerous harms from extremist libertarian misinformation result in contributing to further burnout of a healthcare workforce already at crisis levels of burnout, including violence against them.
It is for that reason that I had requested my team to make medical misinformation in scope to our leadership umbrella and letter since it has a profound impact on doctors. Further, misinformation erodes trust of and with the workforce.
On my weekend time, I do interact with some of our physician collaborators and advisors and since one asked me to share this personal letter (below) from me to the CA Governor, I wanted to share context. It is fact based and even though it’s rooted in evidence and the merits of research based ethical frameworks; I am still careful to separate my letter as a person from the organization Medigram. This is due to radical extremists who support freedom of misinformation about and oppose science and medicine and the requirement to have constant awareness of that in the tech ecosystem.
Medigram is a non-partisan entity; both the organization and I identify as moderate centrists per the extended discussions on the topic with the team. In healthcare, it’s imperative to have constructive working relationships with policymakers and regulators regardless of their party affiliation. You have to work with whomever is in office.
Integrity of the information environment is what the workforce wants and expects:
Instructions and Letter Sample Below:
If you care about and have been following the impact of misinformation on physician burnout, suicide, and violence against clinicians; please contact Governor Newsom and encourage him to sign this approved bill into law. The bill allows medical boards to discipline physicians who spread medical misinformation. Note that we listed medical misinformation and supporting physicians as in scope for our Medigram company letter here: https://sherridouville.medium.com/leadership-for-a-polarized-world-in-medical-technology-software-data-a6306ca9c6b9

Please Make CA a Leader and Sign Into Law Assembly Bill 2098
Dear Governor Newsom,
From one Bronco to another, please sign Assembly Bill 2098 into law. Many studies show that misinformation contributes to physician burnout, suicide, and violence against our healthcare workforce. Powerful institutions that should help protect our population are not empowered to stand up against, or even educate when it’s their mission; those who are ignorant and with anti medicine, anti science interests Unfortunately, due to radical, extreme libertarian regional ideologies, individuals in CA have contributed as a large super generator and exporter to other states and countries of harmful medical misinformation. I hope you will exercise your leadership to help immediately turn that around with this step.
