How the Role of Series Editor top U.S. & International Academic Publisher Advances the Job of an Early-Stage Healthcare IT CEO, Sherri Douville at Medigram Inc.

This blog is an adaptation of a letter sent to the Medigram team explaining the purpose and significance of our CEO being named series editor for top academic press, publisher, Taylor & Francis.

Academic grade medical information “publications” are at the foundation of every successful long-standing innovation in healthcare technology (vs wellness). That’s why companies like Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic put major budgets, competencies, and headcount around medical publications. Without this, you never gain trust with necessary stakeholders in healthcare. This is reminiscent of enormous waste by multi-billion dollar established companies and startup failures alike in healthcare technology.

Therefore, we’re thrilled to reach the level of series editor as announced here to take a role in shaping our field with top academic publisher, Taylor & Francis. This is earned, not a paid for opportunity. Taylor and Francis is the place where leaders in academia in medicine, engineering, policymakers and industry leaders in healthcare IT go to learn about the future.

Building trust in Medigram and respect amongst the ecosystem is essential to success and this is one the greatest levers for doing that.

Everyone knows that healthcare is complex and that there is a gulf of trust between digital health software and medicine. One of the biggest levers and most important ways to help solve that is by addressing medical stakeholders’ needs for “medical grade information.” That would typically be done through journals. However, given the number of functions: medicine, IT, engineering, Cybersecurity, privacy that are required for alignment; there are no suitable journals and therefore books become the default form. The performance of our books which both debuted on Amazon as #1 new release for medical technology, has supported our CEO’s role helping to design our industry’s certification and contributed to making her the #1 ranked executive in Silicon Valley and #1 for Healthcare Startups on the Innovation database, Crunchbase and #23 in the world of all company types and stages as of this writing.

We use the book production lifecycle as a mechanism to develop, upskill our people, and surround them with community.

In this more advisory role than past editing of our best-selling books; Sherri will be discovering and championing the people who are shaping our field and that will become recognized as leaders in Trustworthy Mobile Medicine and Advanced Health Technology. This will be very beneficial for our mission to have multiple authors writing according to our principles for medical grade information.

This role requires no additional work on the part of Medigram CEO, Sherri Douville beyond the existing book projects which we use to train, build teams, and ecosystem upskilling as we explained in this blog here. One appealing feature of the series editor role is the publisher’s commitment to taking on most of the program, project management, and talent development tasks and responsibilities related to new editors stepping forward under both series.

Many industry leaders publish books and there are many parallel elements of building and delivering multi stakeholder textbooks that are highly similar to complex IT projects. For example, the highly regulated portions require “waterfall” style management and the content portions with multiple functions require agile models of teamwork, all taking place in a complex, multi stakeholder, multi organizational situation.

There is not enough space to thank all of the critical people who got us to this point in the movement of medical grade information for health information technology including all of our co-authors listed here for Mobile Medicine and here for Advanced Health Technology, and teammates and advisors such as Mike Ng, Karen Jaw-Madson, Anthony Lee, Dr. Art Douville, Brittany Partridge, William Harding, Ann Mongoven, Jodyn Platt, Florence Hudson, Eric Svetcov, Dr. Brian McBeth, Mitch Parker, Dr. Josh Tamayo-Sarver, Jeff Bargmann, Ronnie Lott, Lucia Savage, Peter McLaughlin, Allison J. Taylor, Kristine Mednansky, Joe Mulhearn, Tom Bondi, Duy-Loan Le, Aaron Miri, and our sponsor on the books, Ed Marx.
